A cosmology is the study of the fundamental nature of the universe and of all reality. It seeks to answer the following questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? What is the nature of the universe? What is the nature of reality?
The Biblical Cosmologies consists of two fundamental realities we call the Creator / Creation distinction:
The Pagan Cosmology consist of one fundamental reality:
When you reject God as being the distinct Sovereign Creator, God, man, male and female, animals, and all of nature is all mixed together to form an essential oneism.
This video presents the biblical cosmology with its two realities as the basis for reality. The biblical cosmology presents the reality of God and the reality of creation. This is essential to the biblical worldview.
God is Real and His creation that He made is also really real.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)
How does God, man, and creation relate to one another in the biblical cosmology? What is man’s place in the universe?
God made people to be either male or female to worship God, have dominion over creation as stewards of what God has made.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Gen. 1:26-28 NKJ)O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen– Even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:1-9)
Genesis builds upon the biblical cosmology by revealing three foundational relationships:
The Pagan Cosmology fundamentally is in denial of the biblical cosmology. They deny God as the Sovereign Creator, so they are left with everything being One.
This leads the Pagan Cosmology to blur the three foundational relationships.
This results in a loss of meaning and purpose. In the end, nothing is real except lust. The Pagan Cosmology is the judgment of God on all who refuse to acknowledge God as the rightful Creator and Sovereign Ruler.
The next video will explore the implication of this chaos as an exposition of Romans chapter 1.
